IELTS Scores for Immigration Explained
IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is the most widely accepted English proficiency test for immigration. Different countries use different scoring systems to measure your English level — Canada uses CLB (Canadian Language Benchmark), the UK uses CEFR (Common European Framework), and Australia uses its own points system. This converter helps you understand what your IELTS score means across all three systems.
🇨🇦 Canada — CLB Levels
Canada uses CLB 1–10. IELTS 6.0 = CLB 7 (minimum for most programs). IELTS 8.0+ = CLB 10 (maximum points). Each CLB level adds CRS points.
🇬🇧 UK — CEFR Levels
UK Skilled Worker visa requires CEFR B1 (IELTS 4.0–5.0) minimum. Most professional roles need CEFR B1+. IELTS 7.0+ = CEFR C1.
🇦🇺 Australia — Points
Australia gives 0 points for Competent (IELTS 6), 10 points for Proficient (IELTS 7), and 20 points for Superior (IELTS 8+). IELTS 8+ is worth 20 extra points.
